FIX University (OCW )Open Course Ware @ newsRus.com
Dear FIX,
As Sunday night September 9 becomes Monday September 10, at midnight here in the eastern U.S., the ModPo site will open to everyone who has enrolled in the 10-week course.
The URL or web address to use is this: https://class.coursera.org/modernpoetry . Bookmark or save that address as the easiest way in.
This URL works also, and is the one to pass along to friends who might still like to join the course: https://www.coursera.org/course/modernpoetry .
If you haven't yet filled out the brief (optional) ModPo survey, please do: link.
When you enter the ModPo site on Sunday night or Monday morning, you'll see several announcements on the home page. Please listen to the audio introduction to week 1 (12 minutes long), and watch the video introduction if you haven't done so yet.
Then you can go to the "main syllabus/schedule" page and begin reading poems by Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman. Then join us in the "discussion forum" for a conversation about each of the poems.
As I write this note, we are 400 people shy of 30,000. That's a lot of people studying modern and contemporary American poetry. I and the ModPo TAs - and a number of teachers, poets, critics, and poetry scholars who are joining us too - are thrilled by this show of interest! Judging from the very lively exchange already going on in Facebook and through Twitter, I can tell that poetry generates a great deal of curiosity and passion. Many thanks to you in advance for the excitement and focus you will bring to ModPo, whether you are a poetry veteran or novice.
Best wishes (from New York City tonight, not Philly),
- Al
P.S. One ModPo student has written a short commentary for Psychology Today partly about us already. Have a look: link.
